FREDERICKSBURG, known for its famous peaches, was named for Prince Frederick of Prussia by John O. Meusebach in 1846. The town was laid out like the German villages along the Rhine River, from which many of the colonists had come. This strong German heritage can be seen in the architecture, food and rich traditions of Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg was the birth place of Fleet Admiral Chester William Nimitz, United States Navy.
